Crochet Items That Last a Lifetime

I’ve been crocheting since I was six years old, a skill lovingly passed down to me by my abuelita (grandmother). She would spend hours patiently teaching me, her hands gracefully working the yarn as I sat beside her, trying to mirror her movements. Now that she’s gone, those memories are some of my most cherished—crocheting together, her quiet encouragement, and the comfort of simply being by her side as she worked on her own beautiful projects.

Crocheting has remained a constant in my life—a soothing, creative outlet that brings me peace and joy. It’s a hobby that connects me to her, to those moments, and to a simpler kind of happiness. However, as much as I love it, my arthritis requires me to take things a little slower. I need to take plenty of breaks to avoid overworking my hands and causing more pain, but I remind myself that every stitch is still meaningful, even if it takes a little longer.
